State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECHs)
What are SCECHs?
State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECHs) are credits awarded to educators in the state of Michigan for participating in professional development activities. These hours are used to renew teaching certificates and licenses. SCECHs can be earned through various activities such as workshops, conferences training sessions, and coursework. The goal is to encourage continuous improvement and learning among educators, ensuring they remain effective and up-to-date with the latest teaching strategies and educational standards.
Significance of SCECHs:
The significance of State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECHs) lies in their role in fostering continuous professional development for educators in Michigan. By earning SCECHs, educators demonstrate their commitment to staying current with the latest teaching methods, educational technologies, and best practices. These credits help ensure that teachers are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide high-quality education to their students. Moreover, SCECHs are essential for renewing teaching certificates and licenses, making them crucial components in maintaining the standards and effectiveness of the education system. Overall, SCECHs contribute to the growth and improvement of both individual educators and the broader educational community.
How SCECHs are awarded:
State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECHs) are awarded to educators in Michigan for participating in approved professional development activities. These activities can include workshops, conferences, training sessions, and coursework that have been approved by the Michigan Department of Education (MDE). Educators must attend these activities and often complete specific requirements, such as assignments or assessments, to earn the SCECHs. Once the activity is completed, the provider of the professional development submits the participation information to the proper SCECH coordinator, which then records the SCECHs in the educator's professional development account (MOECS). This process ensures that the professional development activities are of high quality and contribute to the educators' growth and effectiveness.
Accessing SCECHs in MOECS:
Educators can track their SCECHs through MOECS. To use the system, educators must have a personal account and a certificate/license issued by MDE's Office of Educator Excellence.
To view SCECHs, educators need to log into MOECS using their personal login name and password. After reviewing personal information and selecting either Update or Confirm, choose the View Professional Learning page from the left side menu list. Select the District uploaded PD and SCECHs tab to view awarded SCECHs and Access Evaluations Due to see a list of incomplete evaluations.
